The final episode of the current Date A Live television anime series aired on Friday with an announcement that production on a second season has been green-lit. The original light novel series' author Koushi Tachibana also madethe announcement.
The story centers on an ordinary high school boy named Shidō Itsuka who meets a spirit girl who has been rejected by a devastated world. The girl, who Shidō names "Tohka," happens to have wiped out much of humanity 30 years ago, and now she is back. The only way to stop her is to date her.
Keitaro Motonaga (GetbackersJormungand) directed the first anime season at AIC PLUS+ with visual director Hisashi Saito (HaganaiHeaven's Lost Property). Hideki Shirane (Hayate the Combat ButlerQueen's Blade: Rebellion) was charge of the series scripts, and Takaaki Suzuki (Strike WitchesLast Exile) advised on the world setting, as he has done other anime and manga. Satoshi Ishino (Excel SagaNogizaka Haruka no Himitsu) designed the characters based on Tsunako's original novel illustrations. Mika Akitaka (Martian Successor NadesicoGalaxy Fraulein Yuna) designed themecha, and Go Sakabe (Gosick theme songs) scored the soundtrack with sound director Yasunori Ebina (A Certain Magical IndexNaruto) at Nippon Coluambia.
Funimation has been streaming the anime in North America as it airs in Japan.
